In previous posts we’ve talked about choosing the right Natural Stone for various applications. We also covered what can be done in house, on a daily basis to ensure the stone surfaces chosen stay looking great for a long time to come.
In both residential and especially commercial applications it is vital to have the right maintenance products available and individuals who are knowledgeable on their use. This could mean, advising your home cleaning service provider of what you would like them to do when cleaning the Natural Stone in your home. It would include providing the products to do it, or information of where they may find what’s needed as well as how to carry out the work.
The same rules would apply in a commercial facility. The on staff janitors or the cleaning company responsible, would need to be trained on how to carry our daily maintenance and how to identify any issues that arise.
But daily maintenance, is only half the battle.
Installing Natural Stone or having it restored can require a substantial budget, especially in commercial applications. For this reason, it is important to do more than just daily maintenance in order to protect your investment and keep the stone looking its best. High traffic areas will show wear over time and need to be addressed. It may not be necessary to carry out a full restoration providing a scheduled professional maintenance program is put in place. This would include visits by trained stone technicians who will spend the time needed focusing on the problem areas and making sure the stone stays looking its best.
The frequency of these visits can vary depending on the type of stone and the amount of traffic. Once the site has been assessed, a schedule would be set for the stone technician’s periodic visits.
By implementing a complete maintenance program, the need for future restoration is minimized, and the surfaces look great at all times. In the long run, the stone will be subject to less wear and damage and will last longer.
