Kit contents:
- Marble polishing paste
- Two white nylon polishing pads
- Two grey nylon sanding pads
- Pad holder
- Wooden Stir Stick
Simple 3-step process
1) Clean the affected area with a wet sponge and dry it with a paper towel to wipe away any dirt or dust on the marble countertop.
2) Wet the affected area until it is entirely covered in water. Attach the dark sanding pad to the pad holder. Sand the affected area by applying moderate pressure in a circular motion (50 to 100 circles). Ensure to sand 0.5″ or 1 cm beyond the etched area. Â
Clean the affected area with a sponge and dry it with a paper towel or microfiber cloth. Check the area: is it still completely dull? If there is still etching, repeat this step.
3) Apply polishing paste. Wet the area with a sponge again. Attach the white polishing pad to the pad holder this time. Apply 1/2 tsp of polish paste per 16″ (4″ x 4″), and dilute the paste in water with wooden stir stick. Leave the small polishing rocks in the water.Â
Polish the area by applying high pressure in a circular motion (50 to 100 circles). Polish 1-2 cm beyond the sanded area. Clean the area with a sponge, spray some R-311 Countertop Spray and dry it with a paper towel or microfiber cloth. Check the area is smooth and shinny. If necessary, repeat this step.
Voila! If the etches are gone then your work is done.

If you continue to notice etching then try repeating the 3-step process. When there is no improvement in the appearance of the marble etching, it’s possible it could be a stain, or perhaps the etch is too deep for DIY applications.Â
If after 2-3 attempts you still notice etch markings, then it is time to call the professionals.Â

The difference between a stain and an etch is that a stain will be a darker marking from a liquid absorption. An etching, which is most likely what you have, will be a dulling affect on the marble surface caused by acidity or alkalinity spill. Let me know if you have any further questions!

Yes, this kit works with dark marble! Be careful if the marble is black as it will require extra polishing (10-20%)

I have white marble in need of some TLC. It’s antique Italian marble living room table top.
