Why Not Wax?
Many companies attempt to apply wax as a topical solution to stone protection. After 30 years of business The Marble Clinic believes wax is not a viable solution to the longevity of marble, granite, limestone or slate. Natural stone requires the ability to oxygenate or breathe in order to age correctly. Waxing the surface prevents this ability by clogging all the pours, often resulting in discolouration and an unclear plastic like shine.
Instead of applying topical wax, we recommend polishing the stone to a clear high gloss finish, and seal with penetrating silicone base sealers. These are lightweight which allow the stone to breathe and age organically – while still maintaining a durable finish and reducing porosity. High traffic areas require maintenance polishing on an annual or semi-annual basis.
