In a travertine shower, the grout fails long before the tile. Acid cleaners used to whiten grout etch the travertine, so we use marble-safe products. We replace failed grout and silicone, recaulk the corners, and seal the stone and grout together.
Quick diagnosis
If the grout is intact but dark, try a pH-neutral scrub first. If the colour comes back within days, or the grout crumbles when you poke it, it needs restoring.
