Limestone · Stain Removal
Road salt, mud, and oil soak into honed limestone in entries and bathrooms. The stone darkens along walking paths, and owners often take it for permanent wear. A poultice and a deep clean lift the colour, and resealing slows down next winter's salt.
Quick diagnosis
Winter stains usually come in on boots, leaving dark paths that follow where people walk. Road salt makes unsealed tile soak up even more.

Restore vs replace
Finding new limestone to match a whole entry is hard, and replacing it is disruptive. Removing the stains and resealing keeps the floor you have.
Repair path
Oil, organic, rust, water, and mould stains each need a different poultice, following Natural Stone Institute guidelines.
An absorbent powder (diatomaceous earth, kaolin, or baking soda) and the right liquid, mixed to a paste like peanut butter.
Spread 6 to 12 mm thick and covered with plastic for 24 to 48 hours. As it dries, it pulls the stain out.
Stubborn stains can take several rounds. Deep rust or old oil often needs professional products.
If the spill also etched the stone, we hone and polish, then seal.
