Marble loses its shine where people use it most: in front of the sink, on the path to the fridge, across busy lobby floors. Fine scratches and etch marks build up until the whole surface looks dull. We hone the whole surface so the shine comes back evenly. Buffing single spots leaves shiny, dished patches, especially on white Carrara and Calacatta-style tops.
Quick diagnosis
Look at the counter in low, angled light. Etch marks are dull patches in one spot, while wear shows as wider paths of haze. Both can be honed out, though etch marks may not need to go as deep as a full refinish.

Restore vs replace
Dull marble rarely needs replacing. New stone costs far more than honing, unless cracks run right through the slab.
Repair path
We remove wax, coatings, and ground-in dirt.
Filling them first stops honing from pulling out loose pieces.
Diamond pads, from coarse to fine (often 200 to 800 grit), remove scratches and leave an even satin base.
Finer pads (1,500 to 3,000+ grit) give a soft sheen, a semi-gloss, or a mirror shine.
A sealer for stone that absorbs liquid, and regular maintenance visits for commercial floors.
