Marble · Stain Removal
Once the sealer wears off, marble counters soak up oil and wine. The mark looks like a shadow inside the stone, not a dull ring on the surface. A poultice draws the colour out without the acid that would etch the marble. We see it every day on kitchen islands, after weeks of scrubbing that couldn't reach it.
Quick diagnosis
Press a damp cloth on the mark for a few minutes. If the stone lightens as it dries, the colour is probably inside the stone, so it's a stain. If the mark stays dull when dry and feels different under a fingertip, it's more likely etching, which needs a different repair.

Restore vs replace
Replacing a marble island means demolition, a new slab, new sink cutouts, and weeks of disruption. If the slab is sound, removing the stain and resealing usually takes one or two visits.
Repair path
Oil, organic, rust, water, and mould stains each need a different poultice, following Natural Stone Institute guidelines.
An absorbent powder (diatomaceous earth, kaolin, or baking soda) and the right liquid, mixed to a paste like peanut butter.
Spread 6 to 12 mm thick and covered with plastic for 24 to 48 hours. As it dries, it pulls the stain out.
Stubborn stains can take several rounds. Deep rust or old oil often needs professional products.
If the spill also etched the stone, we hone and polish, then seal.
