Travertine · Stain Removal
The holes in travertine hold soap, body oil, and hard-water minerals in showers and on pool decks, and holes filled at the factory can reopen and trap dirt. We draw the colour out with a poultice and refill where the old epoxy has failed, so the sealer holds. Tumbled, unfilled travertine takes longer than smooth honed tile.
Quick diagnosis
Stains near shampoo shelves are usually oil-based; marks near the toilet may be mineral. Open holes in the stone make both worse.

Restore vs replace
Retiling a travertine shower is a full renovation. Stain removal and touching up the filled holes keeps the tile you have.
Repair path
Oil, organic, rust, water, and mould stains each need a different poultice, following Natural Stone Institute guidelines.
An absorbent powder (diatomaceous earth, kaolin, or baking soda) and the right liquid, mixed to a paste like peanut butter.
Spread 6 to 12 mm thick and covered with plastic for 24 to 48 hours. As it dries, it pulls the stain out.
Stubborn stains can take several rounds. Deep rust or old oil often needs professional products.
If the spill also etched the stone, we hone and polish, then seal.
