Fix small etch marks and water rings on polished marble and limestone at home.
The Marble Refinishing Kit repairs small etch marks, water rings, and dull spots on polished marble and limestone. These stones react to the acid in wine, citrus, coffee, and many household cleaners. One kit treats up to about 10 square feet: enough for a cluster of rings on an island, a water mark on a vanity, or a few dull patches around the sink.
An etch is different from a stain. A stain is a dark mark where liquid soaked in; a poultice draws it out. An etch is surface damage: acid has eaten away the polish. A light etch feels smooth but looks dull and lighter than the stone around it; a deep etch can feel rough. A pale ring after wine or lemon is an etch, and this kit is for those.
The kit includes polishing paste, white nylon finishing pads, grey sanding pads, a pad holder, and a stir stick. You use the pads in the same order we use for small repairs. The grey pads work the damaged spot, then the white pads and paste bring the shine back to match the rest, if you take your time.
It's for polished marble and limestone counters and vanity tops. It isn't for granite, quartz, engineered stone, or honed floors, which need different abrasives, compounds, or professional equipment. On granite it wastes time and can leave an uneven surface.
Work on small areas, with painter's tape around the sink, backsplash joints, and nearby stone. Pressing hard or rushing the pads leaves halos: shinier patches around the repair that stand out more than the original etch. If the damage covers most of the counter, feels rough under your fingernail, or spreads over several square feet, stop and book professional refinishing.
How to use
Read the kit instructions in full before you start. You work the pads in order, keep the surface wet, and press lightly. Rushing or skipping a step turns small rings into obvious shiny patches.
Check it's an etch
Etches are dull, pale marks from acid. Dark, soaked-in marks are stains and need a poultice.
Tape off the area
Mask the sink, backsplash, and nearby stone. Work only on the damaged spot.
Use the pads in order
Follow the kit: grey sanding pads first, then white nylon pads with polishing paste. Keep the surface wet.
Tip: Stop if the colour starts to change unevenly. Large areas may need professional help.
Rinse and clean
Clean off the residue and dry. Use R-311 for daily cleaning, never vinegar or glass cleaner.
