Challenge
The Shangri-La is a five-star hotel and a residential tower in one downtown building. Both sides take heavy traffic, neither can look tired, and the work could not disturb guests or residents during the day.
Approach
We refinished the hotel's travertine overnight. The residences' marble lobby and amenity floors ran on their own schedule so the two jobs did not clash, and we matched the finish on both sides.
Result
The hotel and the residences now have the same finish, and all of the disruptive work happened overnight.
Good to know
In a building with a hotel and residences, plan the two as separate jobs and agree on the finish at the start so both sides match.
- Scope
- Hotel: travertine lobby and bar, washroom floors and vanities, elevator cabs, and lobby pillars. Residences: Black Wave marble lobby and entrance, elevator cabs, and beige marble on the amenity floors. Epoxy fill, grind, polish, and seal.
- Schedule
- Overnight shifts, with the hotel and the residences on separate schedules
