About this stone
Slate is a layered stone, either textured (cleft) or smooth (honed). It's common on GTA basement floors, mudrooms, and covered patios. It's harder than marble but still scratches, dulls in walking paths, and stains once the sealer wears off.
It splits along its layers, so edges can chip. We restore the finish you have, textured or matte, rather than forcing a gloss.

Where you see it
Finishes we restore: Cleft (natural textured ridges) · Honed (smooth matte) · Semi-polished (less common)
Restore vs replace
Tearing out slate means breaking up mortar and risking the subfloor. Honing, blending scratches, and resealing cost far less than new tile.
Problems we fix
Pick what you're seeing. The fix depends on the damage and on how slate reacts to it.
